2002

Car Care Ministry begins at Sherwood Park Alliance Church, addressing the challenge of vehicle safety for those facing financial constraints.

2012

Good News Auto is established in response to community demand, aiming to provide accessible, year-round mechanic services while generating funds for outreach programs.

2015

Introduction of Car Care workshops, offering valuable automotive education to community members, empowering them to understand and maintain their vehicles.

2017

Launch of the JumpStart Fund, providing financial assistance for safety repairs to individuals unable to access traditional support programs.

2019

Journey Cafe was established as a hub for support and connection for those overcoming various life challenges. Please note that it is no longer owned by Good News Auto but continues to provide valuable services to the community.

2022

Kimberly Ferland, co-founder of Good News Auto and Jumpstart passed away from her battle with cancer. Chris Ferland has the task of rebranding JumpStart and turns it into JumpStart 2.0 with the addition of our sponsor a repair program.

The following are some things I have learned and observed about my employee's.

Good News Auto Employee

Chris Ferland

Owner

Welcome — I’m Chris, Owner of Good News Auto, Over 27 years ago, I was lost — addicted to crack cocaine, living a criminal life in Vancouver, and feeling completely hopeless. Everything changed when I met my late wife, Kimberly. She helped me get sober and introduced me to Jesus. I've been clean since April 29, 1998. Fourteen years later, we started Good News Auto to be more than just a repair shop — we wanted it to be a place of second chances. In 2022, Kimberly passed away after a five-year battle with cancer, but her faith and love still guide me today. In 2023, I was blessed to meet Shelene, and we were married that September. Life continues to teach me about faith, resilience, and purpose.Today, I speak at schools, churches, and events about recovery, caregiving, and running a business that honours God. I’m thankful for every chance to serve — both in this shop and in the community. Thanks for being here. You're in good hands at Good News Auto.

Jesse Goodwin

Manager/Service Advisor

Jesse has worked with me for five years, starting at my café. I hired him because of his kindness, empathy, and care for others. He has been a significant support to me, especially during the difficult time after losing my wife, Kimberly.

Kelsey Scanie

Service Advisor

Kelsey is truly one of a kind. Her energy and dedication are incredible, making it hard to picture this shop without her. In my 53 years, I've met few women as strong as she is. She makes our female customers feel so welcomed.

Jacob Parent

Service Advisor

I really enjoy working with Jacob. He is super easy to talk with and has this rare ability to be able to talk with anyone. By the way, he has an amazing Christmas village set that is the best I've ever seen.

Matt Volkman

Mechanic

Matt is the type of employee every boss wishes they could find. When I need a straightforward answer or opinion, he’s the first person I ask. He’s incredibly smart and reliable. I see him as a major asset to my team & shop.

Chris Casella

Mechanic

"Jr," has worked with me for almost seven years. He’s always in a good mood and is quick to volunteer for any task. Over time, he has become a friend and a key member of our team. Having him on board is truly a pleasure.

Chase Jenkinson

Mechanic

I know its hard to tell from his picture (haha) but chase is a really solid employee and pretty funny once you get to know him. Aways shows up for work and loves diagnosing vehicle problems. I like having him on my team.

Mike Schoettle

Mechanic

Mike is great to work with. He always keeps a positive attitude, even on tough days. His skills as a mechanic are impressive, and he excels in every area. I feel very fortunate to have him on my team.

Aidan Wicks

Apprentice

Aidan is new to our team and has a bright smile that lights up the room. It's a joy to work with him, and I believe he will become a great mechanic in the future. I’m really happy he’s doing his apprenticeship with us.
